We have all been hurt in the past, are being hurt right now, or will be hurt one day. Whether a small emotional bruise or a blow that leaves a crippling wound, hurt in relationships is inevitable. The question is what can we do about it? Certainly the answer isn’t retreat to a deserted island or erect a permanent fortress around our hearts. And we can’t base our future happiness on confronting others and getting them to change. Here I will share what I’ve learned from over 25,000 hours of counseling people about their hurts as well as what I’ve learned from God through my own personal experiences. The good news is that very little is dependent upon them (the “others” in your life). While communication and conflict resolution are vital to healthy relationships, it’s this inside work that is often most neglected, and yet, if done correctly, can make the greatest difference in what ultimately shows up on the outside, in your behavior and your relationships.
