About this Book:

The Grace of God: What Does It Really Mean? Probably the most popular hymn of all time is Amazing Grace, written in the 18th century by English pastor John Newton. Most people can recite the first verse of the hymn, but how many really understand the meaning of the grace of God, and are actually experiencing the power of it in their lives? How many have ever seen themselves as "wretched, blind, and lost"? How many can truthfully say that it has been their experience: "I once was lost, but now I am found; I once was blind, but now I see?" What is the grace of God, and why is it so amazing? Why do you and I need the grace of God, and how can we receive it? It is the purpose of this book to answer these questions, and to point the reader to the One who is Grace Incarnate—the Lord Jesus Christ. "For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ." (John 1:17) —From the Back Cover of the Book

About the Author:

John Roden has been a born-again believer in the Lord Jesus Christ since 1967, and has diligently studied the Bible since his conversion, including 2 years of Bible College. He is an active member of a local church located in the Virginia suburbs of Washington, D.C.

Book Review:

Following the Introduction, the writer gives a comprehensive Biblical definition of the grace of God, with relevant Scripture references. The first section of the book is devoted to explaining why the grace of God is so desperately needed by every human being. The fall of the human race through the sin of the first man Adam as described in Genesis 3 and Romans 5:12-19 is clearly set forth, followed by a detailed exposition of its consequences for both Adam and all his posterity. The rest of the book develops the theme of the sovereign grace of each Person of the triune God in the salvation of lost sinners. A key section of the book is a study of Romans 8:28-30, "God's Unbreakable Chain of Sovereign Grace," which is accompanied by a diagram illustrating this passage, and an appendix which gives an accurate Biblical definition of the foreknowledge of God. The final chapter of the book deals with the eternal security of the believer, examining it from both Divine and human perspectives.
