In Gretchen of Wisconsin a fat college boy from the south and a fatter college girl from the north, collide at a Christian camp in the Rockies where they have joined other campers to swear vows of abstinence until marriage. The tale pivots on the power of the sexual urge, the subversion of deeply held beliefs and anorexia.

Darryl Halbrooks writes and paints in Colorado and Kentucky. He is the author of two previous collections of short fiction, Mélange (2003) and Redneck Joyride (2004). His stories have appeared in SlowTrains Literary Journal, the Chaffin Journal and Dystinct Art. His visual art is included in many private and corporate collections and his work has been represented in museums and galleries in this country and abroad.
