About the Author:

With almost 30 years in the Safety & Health profession Mark Norton has a unique perspective on the issue of workplace safety and health. Starting as a PMT, specializing in Occupational Safety and Health, he was also a Helicopter Rescue Medic in the U.S. Coast Guard. Following a career ending injury, he found himself unemployed. Landing a position as a compliance officer with the Arizona State OSHA plan, Mark worked to become the Assistant Director. He has conducted over 3,000 workplace investigations, of all types. Mark is a highly sought after speaker on the subject of workplace S&H in the United States and Canada, focusing on personal roles and responsibilities, rather than regulations and policy. The 2008 recipient of the National VPPPA Chairman’s award, ASSE Chapter Safety Professional of the Year for 2009, and the Coast Guard Achievement Medal, his passion for what he does is evident. Mark is also a member of the ASSE and the National Speakers Association.

On rare occasions, I read a book that I know will be kept for a lifetime. This is one of those books. Mark Norton has a true understanding of what a Safety Professional deals with on a daily basis. In his book “If You Could See What I See” Mark walks you through his on the job experiences that occurred during his career starting as a compliance officer working up to Assistant Director for Arizona OSHA, and ties them back to the main elements of an effective safety and health management system.
