I was asked to meet with a group of girls. Once they had settled into my room, they gradually began to spill the beans about problems they were facing—not with their studies, or with their parents or siblings, not even with their boyfriends—but their problems were with each other!
Every complaint that I heard that day went something like this: “I don’t like her because . . . ,” “She is jealous of me,” “She lied to me,” “She likes the same boy that I like,” “I heard that she wants to fight me,” or “She went back and told so and so that I said this and that.”
After listening to those girls that day, the phrase that came to my mind was “schoolgirl drama.” These girls needed to know how to deal with schoolgirl drama.

As a school social worker, I see this schoolgirl drama a lot and I experienced it myself as a young girl. I decided to write about it, to help you identify its props, scenes, and patterns. I want to offer you suggestions that might help you get through this season of your life with less pain and confusion. The pain you are feeling is real, and I have some suggestions to help you get through this difficult time.
