About this Book:

Many consumers are rediscovering the superior flavor, nutritional quality, and wholesome goodness of fresh locally grown fruit from their own garden, a Farmer's Market, or picked fresh from a local U-pick farm. "Fruits of the Midwest - A Cookbook and Guide from Harvest to Table" has been written to answer the questions many consumers have about how to harvest, handle, store, and preserve fresh fruits commonly grown in the Midwest. Written in an easy to use format, with individual sections devoted to apples, blackberries, blueberries, peaches, pears, raspberries, sour cherries, strawberries, and more, it provides abundant information and over 250 kitchen-tested fruit recipes. Additional sections address canning and freezing basics, jam and jelly making, ingredient substitutions/equivalents, and pan size/volume comparisons. Scattered throughout the book are helpful hints related to a recipe or as a general cooking tip. See www.fruitcookbook.goflagship.com for more detailed information.

About the Author:

Debbie Wilsdorf is an avid gardener with many years experience in fruit preservation and cooking. She and her daughter operate a U-pick berry business on their family farm in northern Missouri. Since the initial planting of strawberries in 2005, they have added blackberries, raspberries, and garden produce. Recipe cards are offered with each fruit purchase and they are frequently asked for additional cards as well as tips on handling and using fruits. This book was written to provide the types of information frequently discussed across the counter at the Wilsdorf Berry Patch. In addition to blackberries, raspberries, and strawberries, Debbie has experience growing, harvesting, processing, and using all of the other fruits included in this book.
