About this Book:

This book discusses the framework in which the scientific enterprise functions. It includes a brief review of pre-modern scientific worldviews and also the major elements in the genesis of modern science. Besides a discussion of the definitions, goals, and assumptions of science, it also explains the methology and the concepts underlying science, such as hypotheses, theories and laws. There is also a discussion of science and non-science.

About the Author:

Dr. V. V. Raman is Emeritus Professor of Physics at the Rochester Institute of Technology, Rochester, N.Y. He holds a Master's degree in Mathematics from the University of Calcutta, and a Ph.D. in Theoretical Physics from the University of Paris. He has taught various courses in technical physics, as well as courses on Science and Human Values, History of Science, Impact of Science and Technology on Society, and Foundations of Scientific Thinking. He has authored more than a hundred articles and given numerous public lectures on various aspects of science.
