Pastel’s life has never been just a walk in the park. In all actuality her life has been one big obstacle after the next. Pastel was forced to move back to the projects after the murder of her father. She had no choice but to return to the place where she was abused mentally, physically and sexually. Being the daughter of a gangster and having a mother that has no time for her, she takes on the responsibility of guarding her younger brother. With trying to grow up as a young teen and protecting what’s left of her innocence, she is faced with the decision to run away because of an uncle that has nearly killed her. On the streets she has learned how to survive while keeping a watchful eye on her brother from a distance. After coming in to her own with street hustle, she befriends the neighborhood drug dealer. While thorns of deceit are pricking at Pastel’s life, can she distinguish between the people who have betrayed her and the people who have her best interest in mind?

D. Dasilva has worked hard to put out novels and children’s books to satisfy the reading pleasures of both children and adults. Her fans have inspired her to continue writing and break the barriers of putting out children’s stories that African Americans can smile and relate to.
D. Dasilva has definitely grown from the concrete and has made significant strides to have her stories heard. With her many projects in the pipelines, she always makes time for her children who will always be her inspiration.
While Ms. Dasilva is shopping her ideas to bigger productions, raising a family, finishing a Masters degree and completing the second children’s book of her Fraternal Madness series, positive people are in her corner pushing her to greatness. “Concrete’s Rose: Thorns of Deceit”, wouldn’t be possible if it wasn’t for the escapades that once took place in her life.
