This story is about a dysfunctional black family living in today’s South. The family keeps secrets about themselves and other family members. Unfortunately for the narrator, she finds out these secrets a little too late to help herself. From the time she was six years old, she fell prey to the cycle of abuse that her family kept as a secret. She suffers abuse at the hand of her family; sexual, physical, and mental abuse. She then develops low self-esteem that sets her up to have bad relationships with men. She becomes depressed and suicidal. Finally, she turns to drugs to help her cope with a not-so-normal family and the trying situations she gets into. Once on drugs, her life takes a short quick spiral down the drain. She loses her job, apartment, car, money, son, and finally herself. She ends up selling her body for drugs and money. As she spirals downward, she falls into a crack house and is used as entertainment for the drug users and dealers. Will she ever get clean? Can she over come her past and forgive her family? Can she stop the generational curse on her family? Or will she just be another victim of “Black Family Lies”?
