About this Book:

Historical genealogy is defined as the study of ordinary people's lives in their immediate relationships and wider impact on society. This book chronicles the life of an ordinary man who lived through uniques times in American history, Jim Crow, WWII, and Civil Rights. His name may not be familiar to many but his determination to fight discrimination in labor uions led to many legal changes that contributed to the employment of African Americans nation wide in blue collar jobs. The book is arranged by events and time periods, thus providing a glimpse into the history of a community, era and geographic locations including the black community of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

About the Author:

Elizabeth Jean Brumfield is currently the Distance Services Librarian for the John B. Coleman Library at Prairie View A&M University. Before coming to Texas she worked at the Carnegie Library in Pittsburgh and as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Pittsburgh School of Library and Information Science. Brumfield is active in a variety of education and cultural organizations including American Library Association, Ethnic & Multicultural Exchange Round Table, and the Black Caucus of the American Library Association. She is published in several peer reviewed journals, including: Journal of Library and Information Service for Distance Learning; Journal of Library Administration and Management; Journal of Librarianship and Information Science; Journal of the American Society for Information Technology; and Multicultural Review.
