In 1996 I accepted a position to work in a newly built Special Care Unit to care for residents with Alzheimer's disease and related dementia. Prior to the opening of the new unit, I would wake up with Psalm 88 in my thoughts. This would later prove to be a very important Psalm. The first time I read this Psalm, I thought something disastrous was going to happen to me or my family. Some mornings while praying, this Psalm continued to be in my thoughts. I started to think that fear from an evil spirit was trying to penetrate my thoughts, so I started to reject those thoughts. However, because of my ignorance of God's sovereignty, I was wrong. To my amazement, Psalm 88 revealed to me the hidden trauma and torment one may experience with Alzheimer's disease. I believe God speaks or reveals knowledge to each individual differently who truly know Him in the uniqueness of how He has created us. I did not write this book to offend anyone but to give hope and healing to the reader.
