About this Book:

The Civil War era comes alive with this tale of Jenny McGee's adventures. Her wounded embittered father finds adjusting to civilian life difficult, so the two of them leave home to build a new life. They travel from Booneville NY along the Black River Canal to Rome, and ride a packet boat on the Erie Canal to Buffalo. When disaster strikes, Jenny has to find her way home to her grandparents.

About the Author:

Irene Uttendorfsky has lived all her life in upstate New York, and has an abiding interest in history. Many of the minor characters in this book were real people, and some of them were her ancestors. She is a Registered Nurse and the mother of two grown children. She and her husband live in Port Leyden New York with their Border Collie McKeever.

Book Review:

HIstorical tidbits both local and national are interwoven to create a distinct time and place for this coming-of-age story. Uttendorfsky makes history fun! Dr Jill D.Greer, Director of Education, Rome Historical Society
