The author, born in New York, his parents and a sister moved to Germany only three months before Hitler's troops invaded Poland, the begin of World War II. This book describes this American boy's experience of the ravages of war, being bombed by British and American Air Forces. Read through his eyes what transpired at home, in school, in the streets. In particular his is the experience of the last three days before he saw the first American soldier. Read about the atrocities committed by people of a forced labor camp near the author's home in a village south of Munich. The reader is taken on a journey of violence, of laughter, of fun, and of seeign a lynching. Read about his experience of being trained to kill. This book will chanllenge the reader to come up with additional questions about this boy's experience.

About the Author:

The author was born in New York of German parents. He lived in Germany during the war years and in 1953 returned to the United States as an 18-year-old U.S. soldier. He was a member of the 82nd and 11th Airborne Divisions, later with the 24th Infantry Division stationed in Germany. He met his wife in Nashville, Tennessee. They were married in Munich, Germany. The author has an undergraduate degree from the University of Tennessee and a Master Degree from the Divinity School of Vanderbilt University. After a 26-year career in the business world, he became an ordained elder of The United Methodist Church. His wife died of cancer. The author has remarried. He and his wife, Sandy, now live in Mount Juliet, Tennessee. He has a daughter, married, living in Hermitage, Tennessee.
