The Shiterature Sampler is a collection of funny, embarrassing, gross, true-life stories about bodily functions. We meet your demand for a quick entertaining read when hitting the john with stories you can finish before your legs fall asleep.
Fold and Wipe- A thirteen-year-old is blamed for a septic tank disaster that left a bathroom overrun with raw sewage, grandparents spewing expletives and a little sister literally sliding through the shit. “I flushed. And then, as they say, the shit hit the fan…. Well, it hit the floor, actually.”
Postpartum Decompression- A new mother recovering from a c-section struggles to pass that first frightening turd with “9” and “1” pre-dialed. “Lamenting that I would have to push this sucker out without an episiotomy for my anus, I gave myself a reach around to check my ‘progress.’ By my amateur calculations, my ass was roughly four centimeters dilated.”

Heidi R. Willis spent ten years in the Air Force. Her stint in the military sent her all over the U.S., Europe and Asia, where she perfected the art of setting poo on fire and strengthened her quads as she hovered over shit pits. Her travel writing has been published in Country Discoveries magazine.
After teaching high school English for eleven years, S. Jane Gari is taking a hiatus to raise her daughter, whose capacity to poop even while sleeping provides copious Shiterature material. Gari won the first place Carrie McCray Memorial Literary Award for nonfiction at the 2008 South Carolina Writer’s Workshop (SCWW) Conference. Two of her works were published in the SCWW’s annual literary journal in October 2009, one of which was nominated for a Pushcart Prize.

Book Review:

Shiterature is among the vanguard of the movement to remove the taboo from poo. And we’re in good company. Oprah Winfrey and her medical protégé, Dr. Oz, initiated a national dialogue on poop that is gaining momentum. On March 10, 2010 , The Huffington Post even broached the subject in an article by Dr. Cheryl Pappas which lauded the arrival of poop in the mainstream, announcing that, “Poop is Popular.” And the best news of all: it's hilarious.
