As reviewed by New York Times best-selling, author Ellen Tanner Marsh How do we measure the the greatness of a life? Documenting it is one way to honor a person, and in B. F. Booth, The Legacy, author Mary E. Booth tells the story of her amazing paternal grandfather, Benjamin F. Booth. And what a story it is ! A former slave and a teacher, Booth began his stellar career in 1885 as a distinguished attorney-- without any formal training at a law college. An advocate for civil rights, he practiced successfully for over half a century....... Mary Booth has crafted a stirring true-life tale of a man who was not only the longest practicing attorney in Memphis, Tennessee, but also the only practicing Black attorney in Memphis for a three-year period. From humble beginings, he reached astounding heights, and this important and beautifully documented book is a stirring legacy.
