Marielle Woolley was born in 1933, the third of six children, and raised in Cap-Haitien, Haiti. Following in her father's footsteps, she took a degree in law from the University of Haiti and did post-baccaleureate work in Germany and Italy. After her studies abroad, Marielle returned to Haiti where she married. During the 1960s, a politically turbulent time in Haitian hisotry, she immigrated to the United States, along with her husband and son. She currently resides in Los Angeles and has two sons and a daughter.
