In a day and age when prose rules the commercial literary scene, John Q.
Williams' poetry provides lovers of meter with an imagery-rich oasis of
analogies and metaphors. His spoken-word style and hip-hop cadences almost
veil the Wordsworthian vulnerabilities and the metaphysical conceits that
articulate motifs of ever-present pain and inevitable triumph- almost. Born
and raised in Gary, Indiana, Williams' work seamlessly blends ghetto and
academy. He attended Iowa State University where he worked with the
Minority Theater Ensemble and served as an instructor for the Ames Few Dance
and Theater Company. His theatrical training is evident in his poetry as
well.
