This book is a compilation of journal and reminiscent accounts written by the Mormon Pioneers on the banks of the Missouri River from 1846 to 1853. The story of Winter Quarters/Council Bluffs is a significant chapter in the history of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. These pioneers also played an important role in the settlement of the Middle Missouri River region of the country. They transformed it from a wilderness into farmlands and towns with ferries, mills and businesses that resulted in established communities, which were left behind as they made their exodus to the valleys of the intermountain west.
