"Kaniksu" is based on a true story. In September of 1975, one of the smallest Indian tribes in the nation, only 67 Indians, formally declared war on the United States of America. The bloodless war lasted a relatively short time and came to a conclusion which was satisfactory to both sides. But one of the most amazing aspects of the war was that it was led by an Indian whose greatest fondness was for singing Italian and French opera!
