The legend of Cherokee warrior, patriot, senator, and hero comes to life as the reader is taken back to the western frontier. The courts of the hanging Judge Parker, in Fort Smith, Ar., want to see him swing from the gallows; but, the Cherokee people, and Ned himself, feel differently. Ned will wage a five year battle against the United States, bounty hunters, and thrill seekers in defence of his innocence after he is accused of killing a U. S. Marshall in the Cherokee Nation. The only individual in the history of the U. S. where a canon was used to attempt his capture, Ned stood his ground. But, in the winter of 1892 he was assassinated at his home in the Cherokee Nation. Labeled an Outlaw, he overcame the myth to become a legend not only to Cherokees but to all Indiginous American Indians. The subject of many short stories, magazine artilces, books, and films, Ned has reached outside of the Cheorkee Nation and is today one of the most prominent men of western history and Cherokee culture. This book explores the families opionin first hand and gives an accurate genealogy and history of this great Cherokee hero.
