About this Book:

A charming book of prose and poetry that gives the reader a look at what it was like to grow up in rural Kansas during the Depression. Illlustrated with family photos and spiced with essays, this book is a nostalgic look at simpler times and an attempt to get us all to think about recording our own stories for our children and grandchildren.

About the Author:

Peggy Hoffmeister Garrett died in 2003 after a battle with multiple myeloma. While raising her family, she enjoyed painting and writing poetry, but as early as high school she won prizes for her writing. As a grandmother, she began taking creative writing classes at Missouri University, took on the presidency of the local writer's guild and began writing her memoirs. They were finished by her daughter.
