Mary Frances (Perroni) Vesey graduated from West Virginia University and earned an MA from Rhode Island College. She taught middle school English before retiring to stay home with her children. A former All-American Masters swimmer, she has competed in many open water races, including Rhode Island's Save the Bay Swim, the Boston Harbor Light Swim, and the Great Chesapeake Bay Swim.
