About this Book: |
|
Hear a genuine voice from the nation's prairies. Touch the pulse of the American heartland. Author Jim Steiert vividly captures and shares the unique character of rural life: the taste, the feel — even the smells — of the High Plains and the authentic qualities of the people who have sunk roots here. Country Turnrows is a compilation of some of the best writings from Jim's long-running and award-winning columns, essays and other efforts of rhyme, reason and country-boy philosophy. He explores everything from pocketknives, pumpkins and politics to a boot repair shop saving the “sole” of a clergyman. With gentle humor and poignant clarity, Country Turnrows celebrates bachelor hotcakes, buttermilk pie, the warmth of neighbors, a sense of communion, the bread of compassion, wonders of weather, seasons of planting, harvest and day-to-day life in small towns. Discover what Plains farm folk already know — it’s time well-spent “neighboring” on Country Turnrows.
