This is a fictional story that is based on historical facts. The changes that were to occur in the 17th century were of great significance to the sovereign nation of France, as well as to its fledgling North American colony that was known as Nouvelle-France. It was a time in which King Louis IV demanded the unobstructed achievement of personal ambitions. The freedoms of individual citizens were easily sacrificed. One such victim was Armand LaBonté, a young medical student and the son of an influential advisor to the Paris Parlement. His future hopes and dreams are shattered when he is accused, tried, and sentenced for a crime that did not exist. He was sentenced to hang, but that execution was blocked and he was secretly sent into exile. The life that he cherished was replaced with one of uncertainty and adventure. Any accomplishments that he would make in life would be created by perseverance and adaptation.
