Calvin Garrett was born and reared on a small farm in the days when you "scratched" a living out of the ground. Those were the days of the "Great Depression" and "times were hard". Life centered around the farm, school and church. World War II brought many changes and the small farm was fading into only memories of the past. He wanted to be a doctor but he was told; "Doctors come from moneyed folks", "You are not doctor material" and "I don't think you will make it". Through all of the trials and tribulations, road blocks and impasses and with a lot of hard work, he reached his goal. Life as a doctor was not easy for this ol' country boy but fate helped him to become "rich" and to enjoy the fruits of his labor. "You can take the boy out of the country but you can't take the country out of the boy". He began to realize that money wasn't everything so he retired early and began "living". The farm was calling, but in a different tone - now, to relax and enjoy - many precious memories.
