In the Civil war era, J.D. Logan’s family is affected by the events of pending bloodshed.
With able-bodied men gone to war, Bushwhackers prey upon the helpless home folk.
Confederate Joseph Porter enters northeast Missouri on a recruitment raid. His men abduct a prominent Palmyra gentleman. When the captive loyalist, Andrew Almsman, is not returned within the allotted ten days, ten of Porter’s men are executed before a firing squad. The South label it The Palmyra Massacre, the north calls it justice.
The local men from both sides see action at Wilson’s Creek, Boonville, Lexington, Vicksburg, Chattanooga, and the Red River Campaign.
In a final battle, J.D. is slashed by a man-eating hog.
