Color Printing

We offer content printing in either black or in full color. Full color printing and printing from a Macintosh requires the use of our InstantpublisherColor software. Black printing requires the use of our Instantpublisher or InstantpublisherColor software. If the content of your book has one or more color pages, answer 'Yes' to the color pages question.

With our color printing process, you have a choice of paper types. Much color printing utilizes paper with a high gloss finish. If you prefer that type of paper, we offer 80# Lustro high gloss enamel. This paper is similar to the paper commonly used in yearbook and school textbook printing. We also offer an 80# white matte paper, which is similar in weight, but with a matte or dull finish. Both color printing paper types are priced the same. Paper types cannot be mixed in the same book, so when you select the paper type you desire it will be used for the entire book.

Please keep in mind that the Color Book order production time is longer than our standard turnaround time. Although our color printing process is very economical, it is more expensive than black (grayscale) printing due to the additional cost of the required equipment and materials. Our process does allow you to mix color pages with grayscale pages and you will be charged appropriately for color or for
grayscale printing.

Please note that even though some images may appear as grayscale in your document, they may actually be composed of colors. Unless these images are converted to grayscale before inserting into the document, they will be processed as color images and color charges will apply. If you have color pages in your document that you want printed as grayscale, you must convert those pages to grayscale before inserting them into your document and uploading. Any color on a page will cause it to be treated as a color page, so if you mix color and grayscale images on the same page you will be charged for a color page, which could significantly increase your order cost.

Changing a color picture within a document so that it displays as grayscale without physically converting it to grayscale will probably result in color printing charges even though no color is visible to the eye. The reason for this is that some programs, such as Microsoft Word, retain all of the color information about pictures so that they can be converted to grayscale and back to color if desired. If you convert a picture to grayscale within Microsoft Word, Word changes the mixture of component colors so that, to the eye, the picture appears to be in grayscale, when in reality it retains some color components. For that reason, unless a picture is physically converted to true grayscale before being inserted into the document, our printing process treats it as a color image and color processing charges will result. If you have a color document, but want the entire document printed in grayscale, you can either convert it to grayscale before uploading with the InstantpublisherColor.com software, or you can use our Instantpublisher.com software to upload your document, which does the grayscale conversion automatically. (Note that Macintosh users must use the Instantpublishercolor.com software, so they MUST do any desired grayscale conversion prior to inserting such pictures into documents and uploading if any color is to be printed in the book.)

Grayscale conversion requires the use of a third-party program such as Adobe Photoshop or Jasc Software's Paint Shop Pro. There are many such programs available. Generally speaking, you need a program which will allow you to save images in grayscale format. If you have any questions regarding the color printing software, please refer to the color printing information page.

When we receive your order, if your manuscript contains more than the requested number of color pages, we will contact you. You will have one of the
following options:
-Correct your file to contain only the number of color pages you desire.
-Approve the additional cost to print your file as is.
-If you would like us to convert your file to the correct number of color pages, we can do this at a rate of $50 per hour. (Most files can be converted in 30 minutes or less.)
