About this Book:

Simple Thoughts for Complex Lives is an eclectic collection of poems, longer poetic essays and reflective observations written by the author during his adult life. The book is intended to be both entertaining and personally enriching and deals with the many complexities in our lives, while focusing on the challenges and rewards of personal growth. It is organized around three of the more important elements in all of our lives: 1) "The Long Journey", or our personal and unique journey through life, 2) "Interconnections", or the relationships we form with others that enrich this journey, and 3) "The Looking Glass", or the insight we gain through introspection and self reflection that enables personal growth, thus giving purpose to the journey. Each of the book's many illustrations was specifically selected or created by the author, not only for its aesthetic intent, but also to visually enhance the written text. Together, they are intended to help provoke contemplation and facilitate reflection, stretching our imaginations to view ourselves and our lives from entirely different perspectives, thus inspiring further personal growth.

About the Author:

While R.T.Bartus has always enjoyed writing poetry, he received a PhD in neuroscience at 25 and eventually became a world-recognized neuroscientist and accomplished biotechnology executive. He has published over 200 scientific papers and books, contributed to the R&D of several new pharmaceutical products and is recognized as one of the originators of the 'Cholinergic Hypothesis of Alzheimer's disease', which led to the first four drugs approved for that disease. He founded, and for a decade, served as Chief Editor for Neurobiology of Aging, the premier journal in its field. He has been honored by the Institute of Scientific Information for the impact his work has had on that of other scientists, placing him among the top 99.5% of all scientists. Dr. Bartus enjoys time with close friends and family, writing, fine wine, music, history, golf and other sports. He lives with his wife in San Diego; they started dating in high school and have now been married over 30 years.

Book Review:

From K.B., Hamden, CT: "Simple Thoughts for Complex Lives" is both thought-provoking and highly entertaining. It is the kind of book you cannot put down, and after it has been read, find yourself picking up again and again". From 'B.F.', Belle Vernon, Pa: "Reading the personal introspections of the author of Simple Thoughts for Complex Lives was a poignant, enlightening and spiritually uplifting experience. The book serves as a moral beacon for all to enjoy. The author is blessed with a deeply insightful perception of humanity and an equally creative verbal ability to vocalize lucidly that perception.' From 'L.I', San Diego, CA: "Simply Awesome!" From 'L.P.', Dayton, OH: "Simple Thoughts for Complex Lives involves anything but 'simple thoughts' for it gives the reader considerable food for deep thinking. Yet, the entire book is easy to read, and along with the well-crafted, complementary illustrations, provides a wholly entertaining, enjoyable and reflective reading experience. The book will be a great keepsake that can be picked up repeatedly and read for either 5 min or 60. It also serves as a wonderful gift."
