The remarkable story of John L. Garrison, Jr. who at just 18 years of age left his Cordova, Tenn home to become "Memphis Pete", a Naval Gunner on board the battleship USS New Jersey. For the next three years, he would fight in 22 major invasions in the Pacific during WWII. He became a plank owner of that great ship on the day she was commissioned. He fought in twenty-two major invasions. Seven times he was assigned as military police for General Douglas MacArthur. After World War II, he was employed with the Department of Defense and worked under high security clearance. He married a spy! One is a bit reminded of Forrest Gump, with the poor boy from Cordova who made friends with famous people, and did remarkable things throughout his life.
