About this Book: |
A young midwestern redneck, moves to California in the late 1960's, falls in with a bunch of hippies and becomes one. By 1970 after getting busted for drugs and serving out a hard, scary year of probation, hits the road to "find out." -- and get laid if he can in the process. He discovers, there is adventure out there, as well as danger, high times and low. Through the eyes of his female road partner who just dumped him, he takes a good look at himself, realizes he does not have what it takes to keep a good woman around and quickly decides he needs to change. This is the story of his transformation.

Book Review: |
Jon Brt is a consumate storyteller and in Jay Salvicek, he offers us a deep examination of a young man's complex relationship with women, the natural environment, the road and ultimately with himself. The character's vulnerability in the world makes us fear for his safety, while growing self-awareness reminds us of our own coming-of-age. This story insisted on being told. -Kelly Madigan Erlandson- author of Getting sober
