John Valentine Crawford, was born in Michigan and moved to Florida in 1913. In these tales for his children, he shows glimpses of life when survival was dependant upon individual effort. As his stories unfold, they depict a youth evolving in the great depression, with no certainty of goals being attainable. He takes advantage of every opportunity, exploits it to the fullest and enjoys freedom and fun along the way. Inherent throughout, is a sense of perseverance, success, and satisfaction.
