About this Book: |
|
Because I am a Jane rather than a John, my legal name is like a letter lost in the postal system and dutifully stamped at each station, Jane Elizabeth McCauley Jones Keller Jones Smetana Jones. Confused? So was I, many times. You can understand why I now introduce myself as Jane Jones, Plain Jane Jones.
The road to this simplicity was long with many twists and turns, bumps and detours. I tell it the way I saw it then, colored by the way I understand it now. Whatever your response as a reader I pray you recognize the bond there is between us as Gods children who lead imperfect lives, but always in His presence and with His help.
Though I often rebelled against changes that were not my choice, I am now thankful for them; Times that forced me to grow, to become more than I was before. Want to come along? Here we go; Seventy five years of learning to live ABUNDANTLY!
Sweeping up the pieces and putting love away. Emily Dickinson

About the Author: |
|
The author, born in 1928, shares her life story. Married to an attorney at the age of twenty, she has four children in the next five years. Before their twenty-sixth anniversary, she learns her husband is in love with his young secretary. She must adapt as a single woman trusting God for her support and begin to develop her persona as Plain Jane.
While married to a wheat farmer she learns to plow at age sixty-one! After surviving breast cancer, she chooses at the age of seventy to return to the small town where her children and eight grandchildren live.
Her story begins with the introduction of her grandparents and ends as she describes her life of single contentment - gardening, writing and communing with four live-in cats. The twentieth century is preserved in her chatty voice.

Book Review: |
|
Spanning the 20th Century, the author reminds us of safer more secure times, when children did not have to live with fear and adults were there to help. You will enjoy her memories of childhood during the depression, World War II as a teenager and falling in love. Later experiences - loss of her dream home to fire, serious injury in a horse accident, a homosexual son, shattered vows, hunting love in all the wrong places, breast cancer - all helped her grow up and find the Plain Jane inside. Now a grandma of eight, she has learned to trust God and sometimes laugh at life.
