Publish Book from Windows (FAQs)

Windows FAQ | Macintosh FAQ | After Book Publishing FAQ

Instantpublisher software for Windows Troubleshooting
Q: Why do I get the invalid password screen when I know my password is correct?
A: This is more than likely caused by your browser not accepting cookies. To fix this problem in IE click tools, internet options, security, trusted sites, sites, and add http://www.instantpublisher.com to your trusted sites.

Q: Why does my document look different when I upload vs. the copy on my computer?
A: This is usually caused because the default printer was not set to Instantpublisher.com

Q: Why does my document look garbled when viewing it in my library?
A: You must have Acrobat 5 or up installed on your machine to correctly view the upload.

Q: Why is my document timing out during the upload?
A: This is normally caused by trying to squeeze too large of document through too slow of internet connection. Color files are very large and as we state in the FAQ you need a broadband connection to work with color files.

Q: Why do I get a network connection 12029 error or could not connect this port at the server error?
A: This is because you are behind a firewall and it is not letting your book pass. With the McAfee firewall disabling it will not work you will have to uninstall the software.

Q: Why do I get a could not install driver files or could not install printer processor error?
A: Some other print drivers installed before may cause this error, try the manual installation.

*Preliminary Installation (All)
Start the Windows "Add Printer" wizard. For printer type, you want to use the 'Have Disk' option and point it to C:\Program Files\InstantPublisherColor Helper\PrintDriver. Use the default settings, but don't print a test page. Now the instantpublishercolor printer is added to your machine.

* Windows 9x/ME
1.From the Printers Window, right click on the printer you have just added and select Properties. A window showing the properties for this printer will pop up, click on the Details tab of this window. Click on the Add Port... button.
2.The Add Port window will pop up, click on the Other radio button, and make sure Local Port is highlighted, click on OK.
3.A small window asking for the name of the port will pop up, enter the name of the TEMP folder plus the word OUTPUT in the edit box, for example c:\windows\temp\output
4.Click on OK to close the window asking for the port name.
5.Click on OK to close the printer properties window.

*Windows 2000, NT, XP
1.From the Printers (or Printers & Faxes in XP) Window, right click on the printer you have just added and select Properties. A window showing the properties for this printer will pop up, click on the Ports tab of this window. Click on the Add Port... button.
2.The Add Port window will pop up, click on the Other radio button, and make sure Local Port is highlighted, click on OK.
3.In the Printer Ports window, choose Local Port then click New Port...
4.A small window asking for the name of the port will pop up, enter the name of the TEMP folder plus the word OUTPUT in the edit box, for example c:\windows\temp\output
5.Click on OK to close the window asking for the port name.
6.Click on Close to close the window asking for the port type.
7.Click on OK to close the printer properties window.

Q: Why do I get an internal read error had occurred, unable to load install instructions error?
A: This is a generic disc read error. It could indicate the temp folder is missing, the disk is full, or the temp folder is full, etc. Also, an anti-virus program may be interfering with the install. You could try opening the installer with WinZip and extracting the files into some temp folder and then run setup from that folder. Otherwise, try emptying out c:\documents and settings\user\local settings\temp folder or in IE go to Tools->Internet Options->Delete Files.

Q: Why do I get a general transfer error (error number: -2)?
A: This is an error from the operating system. Please make sure the directory C:\Documents and Settings\User\Local Settings\temp exists. If it does, you may want to try deleting all the files and folders out of it that you can.

Q: Why do I get the error message: ?Please start your IE web browser and click ok to continue.? After click ok, the same message keeps coming back.
A: If you keep getting prompted to start your web browser even though it is already running, a third party application (maybe spyware) may have modified some IE registry settings.
Solution:To set IE back to its original state, follow these instructions:

Go to Start---> Run and type regedit (click ok)
Go to each of the following keys and look for "Window Title" in the right window:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\
HKEY_USERS\.Default\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Internet Explorer\Main\

Right-click---> Window Title and choose delete

Q: Why do I get Dynazip: 18 error and the file is not sent?
A: This is a file permission problem. The document is probably protected and you do not have the correct permission to send it. You will need to contact your network administrator to help you with your permission. The definition of the error is below.
Error 18: File not found or no read permission - The ZIP file that you specified could be found but is locked or unavailable. Perhaps the SECURITY permissions are restricting access to the ZIP file or the directory that contains the file is locked or restricted

Q: How do I clear unsent job?
A: To clear any unsent job, go to Start -> All Programs -> InstantpublisherColor Web Helper program. A screen will pop up giving the message "The instantpublisherColor Web Helper is meant to be used in conjunction with our site..." This message is only meant to let you know when you actually start to print with our printer driver, this program needs to be closed. Then on this program window, please click the top Tools menu, click Clear Transfer Queue to clean any unsent jobs. You will be given an "Job Queue is empty" if the unsent jobs are cleared.

Q: Do I have to convert my manuscript into PDF file before I send to instantpublisher? If so, is there any specific settings I can follow to avoid any font or resolution issue? Is there any other tools I can use to create PDF files?
A: Most of the publishers only take PDF files from customers, however, instantpublisher is the only publisher does not require that. If you install instantpublisher software to upload your manuscript, the software will embed all the fonts and convert your file into a PDF file for you to preview before you place the order.

If in any cases, you are not able to upload your manuscript using our software, we do suggest you email or mail your manuscript in PDF file format. You can use Acrobat Distiller to create the PDF file.

Please follow some of the guidelines below to create the PDF:

  • Set the conversion resolution at 600 DPI.
  • Use High for color or grayscale image compression quality settings.
  • Embed all fonts.
  • Make sure the "Subset embedded fonts when percent of characters used is less than 100%" is unchecked.
  • Remove All fonts from the Never embed list.

Or you can use some free PDF utility, such as CutePDF (http://www.cutepdf.com) to create the PDF file.
